The Boring Habits That Change Everything
Last week I wrote about The Grown Woman’s Playbook — the quiet rules that guide how I try to move through life now.
Not dramatic rules.
Not flashy ones.
Just small standards that keep me steady.
But the truth is, the playbook doesn’t live in ideas.
It lives in habits.
And most of those habits are… honestly pretty boring.
The Boring Stuff Is the Real Work
No one gets excited about drinking water.
No one is applauding when you hit your step goal for the fifth day in a row.
No one sees the moment you decide to go to the gym even though you’d rather stay home.
But those are the moments that actually change things.
This week looked simple on paper:
I made it to the gym every day.
I drank my 128 ounces of water every day.
I hit my 10,000 step goal most days.
I started dialing in my calories a little more carefully.
Nothing dramatic.
But consistency rarely looks dramatic.
Small Decisions Add Up
A lot of people think transformation comes from one big push.
A huge burst of motivation.
A new program.
A sudden decision to completely change everything overnight.
But the longer I work on my own habits, the more I realize something different.
The real change comes from small decisions made over and over again.
Drink the water.
Take the walk.
Show up to the gym.
Pay attention to what you’re eating.
Not perfectly.
Just consistently.
The Systems Make It Easier
One of the things helping right now is our cousin accountability group.
It’s simple.
We check in.
We share wins.
We keep each other honest.
It’s not competitive.
It’s just supportive in the way that reminds you that you’re not the only one working on things.
Sometimes the difference between quitting and continuing is knowing someone else is showing up too.
The Same Idea Applies to Everything
What I’m realizing is that this same principle applies to more than just health.
It applies to writing.
My books are live now, which still feels surreal sometimes. But instead of stopping there, I’ve already been working quietly on the next project.
Again… not flashy.
Just sitting down and doing the work.
The boring habits that move things forward.
The Truth About “Boring”
The habits that change your life usually don’t feel exciting in the moment.
They feel repetitive.
Ordinary.
Sometimes even a little tedious.
But over time those small actions start stacking up.
One week becomes a month.
One month becomes a year.
And eventually you look back and realize that the quiet, boring habits built something meaningful.
A healthier body.
A stronger routine.
A finished project.
A calmer life.
The Real Secret
The secret isn’t motivation.
It’s repetition.
Doing the simple things often enough that they become part of who you are.
Drink the water.
Take the walk.
Do the work.
Boring habits.
Big results.
Until the next chapter—may your coffee be strong and your heart stay open, and you always lead with kindness
